LSBU Student Portal

The LSBU Student portal was made for the purpose of informing every single student about what the university can offer. In terms of how information is provided the student portal is extremely informative and is also very easy to navigate. Within this report I am going to be critiquing the LSBU Student Portal looking at the different aspects of the portal and what is good about the website and what is bad.

The student portal has large range of positive features, the first being the color scheme. The portal maintains a good color scheme throughout the course of the web space, this has resulted in the website being very professional. Another great aspect of the student portal is the search bar in the right hand corner of the page. This is a great feature due to the fact that new students may not find it very easy to navigate around the page. The search bar minimises the amount of time that students may have to look for different areas within the portal. In addition, the navigation bars within the student portal are very straight forward and easy to use and have been made somewhat “idiot proof”. By this I mean that anybody can use the navigation bar and can see where they can find different parts of the portal.

As well as positive features there are more or less always going to be negative features. The student portal is very good but when navigating to other pages such as the staff page the portal requires me to enter my login details again. This within itself is just a security precaution but nevertheless still requires the user to enter their details twice which some may deem as unnecessary and a waste of time. Another disadvantage is the fact that in order to access learning resources about my modules I have to again enter my username and password. As the user this makes me feel inclined to just log into the LSBU VLE because taking this route wastes time.

In conclusion the student portal is very good because the positive features outweigh the negative. Although in terms of how the student portal can improve I would suggest that the website doesn’t require another set of usernames and passwords. The realistic change of this happening is very slim because I understand it is to do with security protocol but if there was something that the website could change it would be the extra login page removed.
